I had drafted a specific elder law article this week when I suddenly felt a call to change direction and write about something more profound. Often we get so busy that we fail to talk about some of the most important things in life. I didn’t want to make that mistake in today’s column.

Two weeks ago, a good friend lost his mother to Alzheimer’s. She had lived a long life and was ready to move on. I’m sure she was ready to rejoin her deceased husband and anxious to get that healthy mind back she once enjoyed.

For the last two years, her adult son, along with his wife and children, opened not only their arms, but their home to this woman. While her mind may have failed to realize who was caring for her these last couple of years, a Christian can’t help but know that her heart was most certainly aware.

At the family’s request, I was privileged to read an anonymously written prayer for Alzheimer’s Sufferers at the memorial service. I now share this prayer with you as a tribute to how this son honored his mother.
